Hmm.
So I thought it was about time I upgraded to a paid account. I selected 'twelve months', entered all the necessary credit card details, and hit 'pay', taking note of the instruction to press once and wait.

Ten seconds later, I get a 'this page is not available' notice. Not a problem, I thought, I'll just go round again. Same result. This time, though, I happened to hit 'back' afterwards, and noticed a little note next to the order: "This order has been checked out. Create new order?"

No receipt email has shown up, though. And there's been no change in the status of my account...

Did you have to go through the whole paypal-setting-up thing? That alone generated several emails when I did it. They do tell you when you pay that it can take about 12 hours to update the status of your LJ account, though, so I wouldn't worry unless it's been more than a day.

There's the whole new payment system now though, isn't there? As I understand it, LJ got its own credit card payment system about a week or so ago, and now just have PayPal as the backburner.

Ah, could be.. it was almost 3 weeks ago that I went and paid for mine. Assuming it is a new system, though, and one that's having teething trouble, then Niall shouldn't lose out because of it, even if it takes a little while for the request to go through. At least, I'd hope so!...

You should open a support request (http://www.livejournal.com/support/submit.bml) in the Accounts Payments category - even if it works out alright with your payment (which it should) the more they know about any possible errors the better. Those requests are private (only seen by LJ staff and you) so give them as much detail as you can.

Damn - I'm spending too much time doing support :)
